  • The Best Natural Deodorant Alternatives

    (0)
Posted on February 21st, 2011Mandy HobsonUncategorized

While perspiration is a natural process that the body must undergo to release toxins and is the body’s means of thermoregulation, excess sweating can be quite embarrassing, particularly in social situations. It has become common practice for people to apply deodorant for hygienic purposes to prevent underarm perspiration and body odour. However, scientific studies have shown that the use of deodorants made of certain chemicals to prevent sweating can cause cancer and other illnesses that can lead to death.

These findings have resulted in an increasing concern with regard to the use of chemically manufactured deodorants. These deodorants often contain harmful aluminum salts, which block the flow of sweat by clogging sweat glands, talc, a fine powder that is known to have natural absorbent qualities and Triclosan, a synthetic antibacterial agent. While all these products certainly work to reduce perspiration, they have all been found to be carcinogens.

If you would like a natural alternative that will give you the refreshing effect of a deodorant without the detrimental side effects, begin using a crystal body deodorant, a non-toxic alternative to conventional deodorants. This type of deodorant is made of a blend of mineral salts and do not contain any synthetic materials. Traditionally, this kind of deodorant was only available in pieces of rock but now they are also available in sprays, sticks and roll-ons, and have the additional advantage of being unperfumed, so there is no competition with any other fragrance being used.

If you don’t want to risk developing cancer by the use of conventional deodorants then you can switch to crystal deodorant now. It is very simple to use: You have to add a small amount of water to the crystal and then simply apply it to your underarms, with another value of being able to use using the crystal for other areas of the body, including the feet. The best results are obtained when it is applied for over 10 seconds.

With this type of deodorant, application has to be made right after bathing to prevent sweating, as it does not work if perspiration has already begun. If you want a more modern way of applying crystal deodorant then the options are to purchase it in a roll-on or spray bottle.

There are also several other options available if you want to choose a chemical-free deodorant; many deodorants are available that are made of all-natural herbal ingredients to address the knowledgeable consumer’s need for chemical-free products. Natural cosmetic brands have released several types of deodorant including farnesol, an organic substance that occurs naturally in essential oils such as musk and roman chamomile.

There are a lot of advantages in using natural deodorants instead of those that are chemically manufactured. You can reduce the risk of cancer and other medical conditions that result from chemical exposure.

Posted on December 22nd, 2010Mandy HobsonUncategorized

The iPhone features several applications available for it and more are being made and added to the application store all the time. Just about anybody can invent an application for the iPhone and place it in the app store; all that one has to do is show the app to Apple for screening and approval.

One helpful application will be the red laser which comes available with the Apple iPhone. The red laser allows consumers to scan a product and immediately see the available prices of that specific item online. Alongside the online comparison shopping that the barcode scanner provides, the red laser also has several other quite useful features. For instance, you can scan a movie noticed while walking around a shopping mall and the red laser will locate a copy of it online and will also provide for you to have the entire film sent to your TiVo.

The red laser is also able to add items to your shopping list. For example, when a person is going to discard their toothpaste, they can scan it and it will be added on the shopping list so as to remind them to buy it next grocery shopping trip.

One can use the red laser to scan just about anything and get information that is relevant to their interests. You can use it on a book and the red laser will be able to locate a copy of it within a nearby library. It is capable of this due to its highly developed integration with the world’s largest library catalogue -WorldCat. The red laser is also capable of looking for a copy of a book scanned and find all the online retailers that have it in stock.

In addition to discovering prices and locating products, the red laser will also allow you to scan food. If someone is allergic to any ingredient, one can scan a food item and then tap on the allergen info. Instead of trying to go through the entire list of ingredients in the packaging, red laser will show you a list of all the ingredients within the product and show you the most common allergens within it. On top of all that, red laser will also help you eat better by providing the full nutritive contents within the food.

Red Laser comes with several other useful features -you may be surprised at the numerous items you can scan and find useful information on. This is definitely an application worth buying.

  • Eight Steps to Great Web Design

    (0)
Posted on August 7th, 2010Mandy HobsonUncategorized

Take charge of getting your site produced by a developer and know the process it will save you money and aquire you a site that actually works the intended purpose!

    1. Knowing your business and how you are currently positioned in your market.
In order to formulate a site that truly meets your requirements; you first need to have a full knowledge of your business including your products, and/or services and more importantly their market position. You then have to examine how you want to explain your business and what it offers in 7 seconds or less. Sounds impossible? Well that is the average time that a user will consider the point “is this site I searched for?”.

    2. Budget and estimation
Have a budget in mind and don’t be afraid to let the developers know what it is. In saying this: BE REALISTIC, $500 will never see a great web site created, nor will they be anything left in the bank to market it.

    3. The creative process
Be armed with example sites and more importantly the elements of the site you like so they can achieve an understanding of what you would like to see on your site and also what you find frustrating about other sites. This will construct a good profile and realise not only what type of site to actualize for you but your tolerance to colours, animations, layouts etc. for your requirements which will allow for fast development. The more interaction and information you accord them in the beginning the more time you will save everybody in the long run by achieving what you want 1st time round. Check with the designers on how many rounds of changes come with the contract, most will allow for a total conceptual redesign only once and 2 rounds of changes after that.

    4. Production and Content
After the home page design is created, the developers will more than likely acquire the general layout of this concept and then create the inner page template. It is this template that will be repeated for most of your pages for your site.
Present your content in a pre-proofed word processed document; don’t become too creative with the document fonts etc. as these will not be kept when the content is copied into the code of the site. It is inferred that you do use bolding, underlining, headings and sub heading though ,as these highlights are transferred into the site and are very important later on in not only getting the point across to the reader but for Search Engine Optimisation.
One last tip for content; provide a decent amount of content but provide it in a way that a reader may achieve a summary of what you are trying to infer across in the 1st couple of paragraphs and an image or to. The rest of the paragraphs that get into finer details ARE FOR GOOGLE !

    5. Development Programming and CMS
If your website contains Content Managed Areas (CMS) or has any other dynamic sections the developers will wrap your design around a content management program such as Joomla or Drupal or they may have a custom built system. Make sure that you get to see how the CMS system works on another site they have developed or an example site they may have. it is essential that you know that you can utilize and comprehend the system when your site is complete.

    6. Testing and training
We work closely with the developers to test your site especially if there are any CMS or special programs that have been created for you. You can guarantee if it is has just been written for you then it will not work 100% first time round. This is a where things can get ugly in the process you must understand the way the program works and test it as if you were normal website user. If it doesn’t make sense to you, odds are it won’t make sense to your audience. Make sure you test your website on more than just your browser, try to test it on Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. All of these browsers are available to download on the internet for free!

    7. Launch – going live
When the developers are ready to bring your site live make sure you have finished the above testing step until you are pleased that this website is the best representation of your business / product it can be. Remember even though you can change things after going live it is still a poor reflection on your business if there are spelling mistakes or broken images when you launch.

    8. Marketing
There is little point in having a website if nobody visits it, make sure as part of you contract you have discussed search engine optimisation and or search engine marketing as part of your website build. This is the absolute most important factor of the whole process. If you are the only one looking at your site then you are in trouble.

Remember Search Engine Optimisation is about 30% Onsite (getting your site correct for Search Engine to index correctly) and 70% Promotion. Any developer who tells you otherwise hasn’t been in the industry too long.

  • Tips to Creating a New Business Logo

    (0)
Posted on August 6th, 2010Mandy HobsonUncategorized

A logo is a decisive step to forming a business. It is the face of your business. And like your face represents the tone of your business, gestures the service and displays the professionalism or lack there of.

People spend a lot of money on the creation of their logo and walk away with no artwork files. Then a couple months down the track when they need to put signage on their new building they cannot track the design studio down that formulated the original logo for them and so incur costs to have it recreated. This is unnecessary and may cause difficulties when trying to replecate the logo exactly as done originally.

We have created some basic tips you for to think about when creating a logo. Hopefully these will help you from experiencing any future obstacles.

    Tip 1
First things first - you need to decide if you would like your logo to have an accompanying icon. It is suggested that if your service or product name is not in your business name then perhaps an icon will help in portraying a clear message across to your target audience.

An icon can add an extra element to your branding in that you could use the icon on its own on collateral where perhaps you are looking for a more illustrative finish without losing recognition.

A good example of this is the well-known and executed Nike logo.

    Tip 2
Colour can be an crucial decision as it not only could change the output costs but can also margin your output use. Consider the end result and what you will be bringing your branding onto in the future. Make sure your designer is aware of this as they should design accordingly.

    Tip 3
Make certain you get a back up disk of your logo as a master file and make certain that it includes all the files needed for the different printing formats.

Creative software updates frequently and some programmes become obsolete. Make certain you have a copy of your logo as a PDF - with the text converted to curves.

    Tip 4
Using images in your logo is not very easy to manage. For example it is hard to to reverse into black and white. Images also have limitations when it comes to size - they can only be reproduced to a certain size before they start pixilation.

    Tip 5
Using gradients in your logo is not recommended. This too can have limitations when it comes to output for ie: gradients are hard to reproduce when embroidering fabrics.

    Tip 6
Confirm sure the font is legible. Some logos need to be reproduced on small pieces of collateral ie: post stamps. It is important that in this case the text is
    readable

    Tip 7
Insure that you collect a copy of your logo in CMYK high resolution 300 dpi (for printing use) and RGB 72 dpi(for web use).

    Tip 8
It is important to have a style guide of your logo. It will clearly show you how to use your logo so it looks exactly the same every time it is reproduced. This allows you to keep your corporate image consistent.

    Tip 9
Make sure that you get a letter from the design studio declaring that you own the copyright to your logo.

If you follow these tips then not only will you get a well-designed logo but you will also own the artwork. And when it comes to reproducing your collateral you will be doing it the most cost effective way.

  • Rule One of Business: Get Paid

    (0)
Posted on May 25th, 2010Mandy HobsonUncategorized

Being paid, as you would figure is fundamentally fundamental in your business because if you aren’t being paid, what are you doing in business?

You will be astounded at the loads of business people who allow their clients to simply pay when and if they feel like it. I know such a tradesman who habitually holds bad debts like awards. Why, do you think? Just because he doesn’t bring himself to take the cash and people can just take advantage of him.

If you give somebody credit, only do so when they proved their integrity to you by paying cash on delivery (COD) for some time. Also, you need to gauge whether they have the resources to pay you - if they don’t then why do business with them. Don’t fool yourself into the pattern of “I need the work” or “I need the sales”. It’s pointless when you do the service or providing the goods for nada if you aren’t getting paid.

If you are the sort of person who can’t request the payment after the work has been completed, try these cheats:
Tell your customer that when the work is finished, you will need cash or cheque. They should probably have it to hand over at the transacation and you won’t need to request your money.

When giving out the initial quote, be sure your payment terms are plain.

Create an invoice with your terms of payment clearly stated and give the client the invoice when the job is finished up. They should look at the invoice and reactively understand they can pay you the money now without you needing to say a thing. Fabricate an “evil boss” who may flay you alive if you can’t return with the fee for the work.

Ask your banking to have you running with Merchant facilities so you can accept credit cards like Mastercard and Visa. Many people utilize credit cards and it could fix the dilemma of the client not owning a cheque book or not having the cash in their pocket.

Otherwise, don’t be asked not to hand over the goods till after payment is paid. Understand, until they’re paid for, the goods remain yours.

If you plan to let somebody credit, be sure you have taken the following contact information off them at a point BEFORE you let them credit.

    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone number
    • Bank name and address
    • Account no.
    • 3 trade references with their names, addresses and phone numbers

When you have all this detail, ring the bank branch and make sure that they do use an account there. Then, ring each of the trade reference and request if they pay their bills on time or if they have had any problems with them.

Most people will be willing to tell you if the person is troublesome. If everything is OK, allow them a moderate level of debt, say no more than $500 (depending on your business). Monitor the operation of the account for a few months before allowing this amount to be exceeded.
