  • Repairing Flooded Carpet: A cheap job is a good job right? Wrong….

Don’t let an unprofessional 24 hour carpet cleaner show up to repair your water damaged carpets. These are the signs you must be aware of:

Overcharging. An unprofessional water restoration technician may pack the job up with extra inclusions. E.g. using dehumidification to dry the flooded carpets is not needed.

Having the correct equipment. They sometimes hire equipment from hire companies for the carpet. This is all right, but an experienced water damage technician will have all their equipment so they can offer a faster response and hopefully a better value job.

Proper moisture metre. If they don’t have the choice moisture meter, they cannot tell if the carpet is dry. This increases the potential of future mould growth. Removal of the mould may be required in the future.

They are not Specialised. There are a whole lot of “Carpet Cleaners” in this industry who do water damage repair repairs on the “side.” i.e. they do not complete this type of task every day. Be careful of it. Drying water damage to carpets is an art. Taking carpet off the gripper strips then reinstalling them is best to be done by a professional, otherwise it can be permanently damaged.

You might be thinking, how do I pick a credible Flood Restoration techinician? Below I have selected some signifiers to check for when you hunt around for a carpet flood damage business:

What size is their Yellow Pages ad: This can signify how much work they are doing already. A full-size Yellow Pages ad can cost more than $50 000. So if they have paid for a larger ad, you get some indication that they are established.

Where do they rank in Google? The higher they are in Google, the more “online votes” there have been for the business.

What Qualifications do they have? The foundational qualification they need is a IICRC qualification about Applied Structural Drying and Water Damage Restoration.

Do Insurance companies use them for water damage jobs? This is a top indicator. If insurance companies source them, the business is likely to be good at their job. Insurance companies tend to use the providers that give them the best value for the money.

How much Equipment do they have? They should own at least 100 Air movers. If they possess this many, this indicates they have been running for a while. We took 8 years to accumulate that many wet carpet drying air movers.

What sort of commitment can you get out of them with a phone call? Ask if you can pin them down to a price for water extraction, water removal and initial inspection. If they wouldn’t give you a price for only this, you know they are not willing to serve you, so move on.

Response Time – Our Water Damage business in Brisbane is premised to a 59 minute response time to a water damage emergency. The job needs to be done ASAP. Mould can develop during a 24 hour period.

If you go by these tips you are sure to find a Flood Damage Restoration company who knows how to do the job right.
