  • Repairing Flooded Carpet: A cheap job is a good job right? Wrong….

Don’t let an unprofessional 24 hour carpet cleaner attempt to repair your water damaged carpets. These are the things you must be wary of:

Overcharging. An inexperienced water restoration restorer may build the job up with unnecessary extras. E.g. using dehumidification on the water damaged carpets isn’t always necessary.

Using the correct equipment. They may borrow equipment from hire companies for drying the carpet. This is acceptable, but an established water damage cleaner will own all their equipment so they offer a speedy response and hopefully a better value job.

Moisture metre. If they don’t have the correct moisture meter, they will not be able to see when the carpet is dry enough. This furthers the problem of mould in future. Removal of the mould would then be required in the future.

Specialised. There are a whole lot of “Carpet Cleaners” in this industry who do restoration jobs on the “side.” i.e. they aren’t the ones who take on this sort of job each day. Be careful of this. Fixing carpet water damage is an art. Taking carpet off the gripper strips then reinstalling them must be completed by a professional, otherwise the carpet can be damaged irrepairably.

You could be thinking, how do I choose a professional Flood Restoration Business? Below I have set out some pointers to check for when you are calling around for a carpet flood damage business:

The size of their Yellow Pages ad slot: This can signify how much work they have already. A full-size Yellow Pages ad slot can cost upwards of $50 000. So if they have paid for a big ad, you have some assurance that they are professionals.

Where do they show up in Google? The higher they are in Google, the more webpage clicks there are for that business.

What Qualifications do they have? The fundamental qualification required is a IICRC qualification of Applied Structural Drying and Water Damage Restoration.

Do Insurance companies use them for carpet water damage jobs? This is a better indicator. If insurance companies use them, the business is probably going to be efficient at their work. Insurance companies will use the providers that grant them the better value for money.

How much Equipment do they have? They should own a minimum of 100 Air movers. If they own this many, this indicates they have been running for a good while. We took 8 years to accumulate that many wet carpet drying air movers.

What level of commitment can you get for them on the phone? Try to pin them down to a set rate for water extraction, water removal and initial inspection. If they won’t give you a price for at least this, you know they are not willing to assist you, so keep looking.

Response Time – Our Water Damage business based in Brisbane works to a 59 minute response time for a water damage emergency. The restoration needs to be attended to ASAP. Mould can come after a 24 hour period.

If you focus on these tips you are sure to come up with a Flood Damage Restoration technician who knows what they are doing.
